Spectra Tech is seeking a Q-cleared Health Physics/Radiation Control Technician for Oak Ridge, TN. Radiation Control Tec: As a senior radiation protection technician 4 (RCT 4), performs the full range of RCT support activities and serves as the primary point of contact for planning, coordination of resources, and ensuring resolution of conflicting demands in highly dynamic and challenging conditions that require ability as a strong tactical decision maker. Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused, but usually require contributions of substantial independent effort. Ensures that radiological controls are correctly applied for radiological work, including high-hazard radiological work, by serving as authorized subject matter expert for development of radiological work control packages (RWCPs). Provides coordination of work area resources as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations. Fulfills customer radiation protection requests while ensuring established RP-1 priorities are followed. Works effectively with customers and supervision to resolve problems including elevation of issues beyond the ability of the RCT 4 to resolve. Ability to anticipate problems and handle unforeseen issues. May include technical supervision responsibilities, but certainly includes responsibility for providing technical leadership and review. Contributions of technicians at this level are normally expected to be of sufficient value to have some impact on the outcome of entire project or group accomplishments. Through actions and words, demonstrates excellence in safety and compliance to RCTs co-workers and customers. Consequence of error may include serious radiological safety events, including injury to self or others, as well as noncompliance with 10CFR835, with potential for Laboratory fines under the Price-Anderson Amendments Act. Work involves moderate physical demands, such as lifting and carrying radiation protection instruments and wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection. Work may be outdoors and may be scheduled at time other than regular work hours. Normally requires extensive experience in supporting radiological activities and facilities and in applying operational health physics to work. RCT 4 is considered a senior-skilled level. Demonstrated skills and knowledge beyond those expected to be found at Level 3. Applies extensive knowledge and skills to complete specialized tasks and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Comprehensive understanding of general and technical aspects of the job. Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused, but usually require contributions of original work. Usually includes some responsibility for coordination and participation in developing the final product working with the requestor. Develops solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and independence. Contributions are of sufficient value to have some impact on the outcome of the entire group accomplishments. Work is performed without appreciable direction. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results. Incumbent exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments, which may be completed without established procedures. Education Position typically requires a high school diploma and four to six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate's degrees and graduation from technical institutions. This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to): Provide routine radiation monitoring support for assigned locations. Perform and maintain documentation and reports for workplace radiological surveillance and monitoring of conditions. Provide radiological support for routine activities to ensure compliance with specified procedures, including 10 CFR 835 requirements. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities): Experience performing high-hazard, complex radiological work including working knowledge of the basis and use of engineered controls (e.g., localized ventilation, temporary shielding, and containment devices). Extensive experience and technical working knowledge in radiation protection principles and practices. Extensive experience in radiation monitoring, personnel exposure control and other operational health physics activities. Advanced working knowledge of applicable Department of Energy (DOE) and/or Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) orders and regulations. Fully proficient experience in the use of protective clothing and respiratory protective equipment for radiological hazards Mastery of effectively managing competing demands in highly dynamic conditions. Extensive experience in coordination of multiple complex activities, including high-hazard radiological work, while ensuring that radiation protection priorities and requirements are fully implemented. Outstanding record-keeping, documentation, and organization skills. Ability and desire to assume ownership and responsibility for multiple simultaneous activities, including giving clear and concise direction to others, including peers, customers, etc. Education and Experience Required: Position typically requires a high school diploma and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Performs monitoring of personnel, work areas, and items leaving radiological areas for control of exposures from internal and external sources. Recommends appropriate personnel monitoring devices, protective equipment, and working time for operations and maintenance personnel working with sources of radiation. Observes processes; reads, records, evaluates, and reports data from radiation detective devices, and air and bioassay sampling. Conducts investigation of cause and effect for results exceeding the guides, standards, and limits. Calibrates instruments, operates automated low background counting equipment, processes TLDs, and performs lung counts. Participates in the planning phase of new work processes. Serves as a member of the emergency response organization. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR TRAINING: Requires DOE RCT standardized CORE training certification. Must be able to perform mathematical computations and conversions to express sampling and monitoring results in proper units and terms. Must be knowledgeable and trained in principles, methods, and mechanics of monitoring and sampling of radiological hazards. Must understand the basic nature of the types of radiation. Requires the ability to recognize and characterize problems related to standards and limits, plan investigation action and define corrective measure. Education/Experience: Level 2: Associates or higher degree in technical field and 2 to 5 years of related experience or high school diploma with 5 to 12 years of relevant experience. Requires general knowledge and understanding in area of expertise and associated equipment, processes or systems. Level 3: Associates or higher degree in technical field and 6 to 10 years of related experience or high school diploma with 13 to 19 years of relevant experience. Requires general knowledge and understanding in area of expertise and associated equipment, processes or systems. Level 4: Associates or higher degree in technical field and 10 to 15 years of related experience or high school diploma and 20 years or more of relevant experience. Requires demontrated in-depth knowledge and skills in technical specialty. This level should be limited to a small popultions. Individual sin this job group may lead other technicians by planning and providing work direction. Recognized as the expert in their field. Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance is required.
