Scope of Work A qualified inspector that can provide staff augmentation for ORNL Welding Services that is capable to perform the work within the policies and rules of ORNL and the extra requirements stated below. The position will report to the Fabrication Instrumentation & Inspection Division (FIID) Welding Services Program Manager. The Inspector will be required to work with minimal supervision and shall be responsible for: Nondestructive Examination (NDE)/welding examinations, testing and inspection of steam valves, pressure vessels, inspection of fixed ladders, piping components, structural assemblies and other fabrication assemblies as required for repair work and new construction/fabrication. Work will be performed in both a shop and field environments and could be individual or working on a team. This position requires good working knowledge of shop and field fabrication techniques, and a strong welding background is preferred. The Candidate must have good written and verbal communication and the ability to use basic office software (e.g. Word, Excel, time management software, etc.) and be able to make isometric sketches. Qualifications A minimum of a high school education, or equivalent, with at least five-years of experience with welding inspection and NDE of welds. The candidate must possess a current and valid American Welding Society certified welding inspector (CWI) certificate, ASNT SNT TC 1A level II liquid penetrant (PT) and visual inspection (VT) qualifications. An ASNT SNT TC 1A Level II magnetic particle (MT) yoke inspection qualification is also preferred. The Candidate shall have a working knowledge of ASNT, ASME B31, AWS B2.1, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.6, AWS D9.1, & ASME boiler and pressure vessel codes/specs/standards. Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing experience is preferred. The candidate must be able to produce isometric sketches for documentation purposes by hand or CAD. NOTE: Successful candidate will be required to pass a practical exam conducted by the ORNL NDE Level III program manager. Fall protection training and equipment will be provided by ORNL. Physical Requirements The position requires being able to climb and work at elevated heights on ladders, scaffolding, and stairs and may require medical clearance for respirator use. Fixed ladder inspections could occasionally be up to 250' above ground level ascending and descending with advanced fall protection techniques. Work could be performed in confined spaces and with other site hazards that may require additional trainings. The Candidate must be able to pass an annual Jaeger 1 eye exam, with or without correction. Applicable Standards Service Contract Act (SCA) wage determinations and compliance requirements.
