Job Description: The job of an HVAC mechanical engineer involves researching, designing, fabricating, and installing HVAC mechanical equipment to meet client's requirements. They also consult on HVAC system and equipment design for a wide range of projects. The role of an HVAC engineer includes surveying sites ahead of fitting heating, ventilation or air conditioning systems, planning the placement of pipework, ducts and control panels, installing HVAC components, and performing quality checks to ensure systems are working efficiently and safely. General Scope: We are seeking a mechanical engineer with experience with large system HVAC replacements & facility renovations to prepare detailed scopes & cost estimates for HVAC system & facility renovation projects at ORNL. The person would need to be on site for at least a few days each week, with the possibility of some work from home hours as well. The candidate must be able to communicate and appear in a professional manner as they may need to present the findings to the lab director. Minimum Qualifications: 5+ years' experience in HVAC systems and Mechanical Engineering Associate's degree in mechanical engineering or HVAC systems Work Arrangement: The person would need to be on site for at least a few days each week, with the possibility of some work from home hours as well. Scope of Work A qualified inspector that can provide staff augmentation for ORNL Welding Services that is capable to perform the work within the policies and rules of ORNL and the extra requirements stated below. The position will report to the Fabrication Instrumentation & Inspection Division (FIID) Welding Services Program Manager. The Inspector will be required to work with minimal supervision and shall be responsible for: Nondestructive Examination (NDE)/welding examinations, testing and inspection of steam valves, pressure vessels, inspection of fixed ladders, piping components, structural assemblies and other fabrication assemblies as required for repair work and new construction/fabrication. Work will be performed in both a shop and field environments and could be individual or working on a team. This position requires good working knowledge of shop and field fabrication techniques, and a strong welding background is preferred. The Candidate must have good written and verbal communication and the ability to use basic office software (e.g. Word, Excel, time management software, etc.) and be able to make isometric sketches. Qualifications A minimum of a high school education, or equivalent, with at least five-years of experience with welding inspection and NDE of welds. The candidate must possess a current and valid American Welding Society certified welding inspector (CWI) certificate, ASNT SNT TC 1A level II liquid penetrant (PT) and visual inspection (VT) qualifications. An ASNT SNT TC 1A Level II magnetic particle (MT) yoke inspection qualification is also preferred. The Candidate shall have a working knowledge of ASNT, ASME B31, AWS B2.1, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.6, AWS D9.1, & ASME boiler and pressure vessel codes/specs/standards. Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing experience is preferred. The candidate must be able to produce isometric sketches for documentation purposes by hand or CAD. NOTE: Successful candidate will be required to pass a practical exam conducted by the ORNL NDE Level III program manager. Fall protection training and equipment will be provided by ORNL. Physical Requirements The position requires being able to climb and work at elevated heights on ladders, scaffolding, and stairs and may require medical clearance for respirator use. Fixed ladder inspections could occasionally be up to 250' above ground level ascending and descending with advanced fall protection techniques. Work could be performed in confined spaces and with other site hazards that may require additional trainings. The Candidate must be able to pass an annual Jaeger 1 eye exam, with or without correction. Applicable Standards Service Contract Act (SCA) wage determinations and compliance requirements. Deliverables Candidate shall provide written reports and relevant documentation of all inspections in accordance with ORNL procedures and specifications to the FIID Welding Services Program Manager, or designee. Location Work to be performed at designated company facility. Compliance Requirements - Adherence to SCA wage determination for Fabrication Technician labor category. - Completion of required reps and certs per FAR and DOE guidelines. - Safety training and PPE compliance.

Spectra Tech is seeking a Mechanical Designer in Oak Ridge, TN. Overview: The Fusion Energy Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks applications for a Mechanical Designer and Technician. The selected candidate will focus on the modeling, design and detailing of components and assemblies. The candidate will assist in the assembly and maintenance of cryogenic systems for R&D activities and for major international fusion experimental facilities. This work is conducted in support of ongoing scientific research and technology development for the U.S. Department of Energy fusion energy programs. Major Duties and Responsibilities : * The successful candidate will work on the design, development and improvement of fusion technology related components using 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. * Significant experience with one or more CAD programs such as Creo (formerly Pro/Engineer), SolidWorks or Catia is required. * Collaboration with senior designers, engineers, and physicists in the creation of 3D components and assemblies will be a regular function of the position. * The candidate will create 2D drawings to be used for fabrication, communicate with engineering and design staff through the fabrication and assembly process. * A strong understanding of the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and American Welding Society (AWS) notation in engineering drawings is required. * The candidate will not only support mechanical design, but will also be expected to participate in the mechanical assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of these systems. * The position will support senior technical staff in a variety of projects involving vacuum, cryogenics, high pressure, and electromagnetic fields. * Deliver ORNL's mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.
